On June 10, 1999, a gasoline pipeline operated by Olympic Pipeline Company exploded in Bellingham’s Whatcom Falls Park. Three boys died in the explosion. This explosion led to the eventual creation of the Pipeline Safety Trust, which is one of the only pipeline safety watchdog groups in the country and pushes for federal pipeline safety regulation. We speak with Carl Weimer, Director of the Pipeline Safety Trust about the day of the explosion and how this local incident has had a national impact.
