Informational Resources for a Financial Manager

In a world of ever-increasing financial opportunity, careers in finance are increasing in
demand. While maintaining responsible control over personal finances is important and can be
mastered by most interested individuals, a career in financial managing requires extensive
education and skills. All financial planners, advisors, and managers will most likely have an
undergraduate degree in a related field and many will have even more extensive education
experiences. The career itself is one in which mastery of detail, mathematics, analytical skills,
budgeting, and an understanding of financial markets are paramount to success. This position
also requires extensive business accounting as well as producing financial reports for
individuals/companies. Financial managers are either in charge of large personal accounts or the
finances of an entire company. It is undoubtedly a challenging job but one in which there is a
great amount of importance and influence as well as financial reward. First, all resources need to be evaluated at the deepest level. Questions should be asked such as
“What is the purpose of this organization?”, “Are they promoting an Agenda?”. Second, “What
type of article is this?” It being a factual information piece, or an opinion piece determines
whether it requires a deeper look. All of the following resources can be useful in some way, but
they need to be evaluated to determine how they should be read and used. Depending on the
resource, the following list mentions the resource’s credibility, type of information given, and
usefulness in researching a financial managing career.
