With nearly 1.3 million killed each year in traffic fatalities, some cities have closed busy streets to create a network of wide sidewalks and bike lanes. Since the creation of a walk-first street in Queens, NY, there have been zero fatalities. Many cities are following the trend for a healthier, safer transportation system.
