5G is the newest innovation in wireless connectivity available to business professionals as well as consumers all over the globe. The current established standard for telecommunications is 4G which has speeds available up to 1 Gigabit. 5G has the possibility to reach speeds up to 100 times faster making it a much superior choice for business and general daily usage. The need for superior communication speeds grows as more and more business is done online instead of in person and through the internet. As of 2018 E-commerce and online sales makes up 10% of the total sales revenue in north America. Having a faster and stronger platform on which to facilitate these sales can only lead to more growth in the future. The increasing availability of modern cell phone technology is changing the way people communicate in business through texts as well as more established channels such as email. A decade and a half ago, the idea of being able to run a business remotely from a palm sized device was just a pipe dream. Anymore however, not having an up to date cellular device brands you as old fashioned in business. 5G also effects in home and office connections just like our cell phones. Modern wireless routers are capable of outputting a dual-band signal creating 2 distinct networks one that is on the 2.4Ghz band and one that on 5Ghz. This differs slightly from the type of connection sent out by a cell tower because it’s a much weaker signal in comparison, but it is still capable of providing much faster speeds than the more common 2.4ghz signal. Most of the online shopping that contributes to the global sales numbers happens at home. This is of course improved having a faster and more reliable network with which to browse multiple online shopping platforms.
