Mandy Richard is a 21 year old youth from the Wikwemikong Unceeded Reserve on Manitoulin Island, in Ontario Canada. Since she turned 15, Mandy has been actively involved in advocating for foster children. She sits on the OACASYouthCAN Committee, she is also a member of the OACAS YPAAG for children in care and she also volunteers her time to the Office for the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth. Mandy was also raised in foster care since she was 9 years old and recently chaired a number of unprecedented hearings at Parliament to change legislation around Youth Leaving Care. Mandy is also a contributing writer for “My Real Life Book Report.”
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
