Jason Roberts, founder of the Oak Cliff Transit Authority and the Better Block Project, created an international movement based on changing and engaging his community for the better. After seeing the beautiful communities of Europe, Roberts decided to take action and organize a series of “Better Block” projects, taking blighted blocks with vacant properties in Southern Dallas and converting them into temporary walkable districts with pop-up businesses, bike lanes, cafe seating, and landscaping. Since then, the project has traveled internationally from Melbourne Australia, to Tehran, Iran.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
